The Life and Writings of Thomas Helwys (Early English Baptist Texts)
This is a compilation of all of Thomas Helwys' writings to honor his 400th birthday in 2009, translated from Latin or modern English. The first permanent Baptist and founder of the First Baptist church in England, Thomas Helwys helped develop Baptist theology and ecclesiology. A short declaration of the mystery of iniquity (1611), his most famous work confronts King James I, asking him for religious liberty not just for his own church, but also for all Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and even atheists. King James was not moved and threw him into prison, where he died a martyr for his faith.
