From Manassas to Appomattox: Memoirs of the Civil War in America
William Tecumseh Sherman ( 1820 - 1891 ) was a great general yet controversial figure in the United States. Sherman€s €œscorched earth€ policy in dealing with the South leaves him considered a barbarian in that part of the country while he is hailed as a war hero in the North. Sherman, who is often thought of as the first modern general, wrote personal memoirs of his life including his military career.
