The story of Robin, Maid Marion, and the men of Sherwood Forest have thrilled audiences on film, TV and in numerous books. Howard Pyle (1853 - 1911) was an American illustrator and writer of books for children. In 1900 he founded the Brandywine school of art and illustration. He is best known for his classic The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood and a 4 volume work on King Arthur. If you have enjoyed some of the many movies about this folk hero, now is a good time to read the original book. As is so often the case the book is much better than the movies that followed.
