The Old Car Nut Book
The Old Car Nut Book was designed with the idea that EVERYONE in the old car hobby has a story or two to tell. It provides a place for people to tell those stories that often don’t get shared outside of a garage or with a couple of buddies from the back fender of a special ride during a car show. These are stories from regular Old Car Nuts from across America.
Contributors range from people like the average Joe at a car show to collectors and restorers that are very well known and respected in their local communities. These individuals have spent a lifetime of buying, selling and admiring old cars and while some of them were not that old when they started admiring them, both and the cars are older now!
The stories in this book tell about the contributor’s experiences from the time that cars first caught their eye up to their latest project and reveal the people and events that made an impact on them.
The Old Car Nut Book is about people and it gives readers an opportunity to find out more about like-minded people that they may never hear about otherwise. Some of the stories in this book are of people finding garages storing timeless classics, those “barn finds†that have always been sought after, or of rescuing jalopies rotting away in open fields or under overhanging trees and being used as chicken coupes. Some of those cars were restored and some only needed to be preserved. Others were discarded, once again, in favor of an easier or more desirable project. More importantly, you’ll read about the emotions, decisions, and adventures that went along with them.
You’ll read about the first ride in a hot rod, the first time driving, and double dates in old beater cars available to young and nearly penniless teenagers many years ago, and how some of those old beaters are now priceless classics that sell for big bucks. First car stories are a few page flips away.
Many of the storytellers reveal how dreams of building cars began at an early age, starting with models, bikes, scooters, or dune buggies. Several painted cars with their mother’s vacuum cleaners in the back yard. More than once, you’ll find the authors of these stories lament, “I wish I still had that car!â€
Old Car Nuts come in all shapes, sizes, and varied levels of interest and involvement and for many, speed, and power were the things that mattered as they moved through life. Some raced and some watched. Some wrenched and some drove. Some raced at the track and some on the street. Some went to extremes to win and some were happy just making a run whether the outcome was the thrill of victory or the necessary agony of the occasional defeat.
A few witnessed historical moments and several played a part in building iconic cars. A handful of these guy’s cars made their way to private collections or museums and a lot of them wound up dismantled for the valuable parts.
You’ll find that you will enjoy reading these stories over and over again and will want to share them with friends and family, as well. You'll laugh and you'll cry. You'll step right into the past with each story told. For now, dig in and enjoy!
