The Parthenon
Hardcover with dust jacket. Editor, Joseph L. Gardner. Book by Peter Green and the Editors of the Newsweek Book Division, S. Arthur Dembner, Publishers, New York. Deluxe Edition. The boards of the book are a padded, rich brown leatherette with gilt lettering. Inside the dust jacket there is some light foxing. Approximate size of book, 9.25 x 11.50. The dust jacket shows light shelfwear and edge wear. There is a one inch tear on the jacket near the lower back near the opening of the book. The bottom and top of the dust jacket has light wrinkles and tiny tears at the top and bottom. The spine corners are rubbed lightly on the jacket, the book looks very good. There is one small bump on the middle back of the actual book board, not too bad. The corners are in very good condition. The end pages front and back, show a "slanting afternoon sunlight that accentuates the geometrical simplicity of the Parthenon's outermost colonnade." Total 172 pages. This is a beautiful book with full pages of color illustrations and some black and white illustrations and maps detailing the Parthenon. 1973 edition. The spine is tight and straight, the pages are unmarked and with no tears. A nice book to add to your library and one to read and learn all about this beautiful architecture. "Democracy's symbolic birthplace, the famed Acropolis, stands today as a rubble-strewn reminder of the glory that was Greece. The ancient citadel, once the center of Athenian religion and civic pride is surmounted by half a dozen ruined buildings, among them the most famous temple in the Western world, the Parthenon." *9BC2
