John McLaughlin is universally recognized as one of the world's greatest guitarists; his pioneering recordings range from his landmark work with Tony Williams and Miles Davis, his own fusion recordings with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and his dazzling solo work in jazz and world music. In 1996, McLaughlin released The Promise, an album that encapsulated his diverse resumâ€š. Guests included fellow guitarists Jeff Beck, Al DiMeola and Paco De Lucia; jazz heavyweights Joey DeFrancesco, David Sanborn and Michael Brecker; the singular Sting; and the renowned world music musicians Zakir Hussain, Nishat Khan and Trilok Gurtu, among others. The Promise, which McLaughlin produced, was quickly recognized as a modern classic.
