Hunter stepped aside to allow Ava in. He was relieved when she accepted the offer and crossed through the threshold. She was wearing a cream colored, floral print dress. Good, Hunter thought; sheâ€™s showing a little more confidence. Sheâ€™d ditched the sweat pants.
Ava walked into the living room, then turned to look at her host. Even through the tight, black t-shirt she could see his abs and the muscles on his tight shoulders. She inadvertently licked her lips, unable to contain the reaction.
â€œAbout last night,â€ Hunter said, ready to apologize.
â€œNo, let me start,â€ Ava interrupted, before catching herself. â€œMay I start?â€ She was cute when she asked, looking away from Hunter in an embarrassed gaze.
â€œOf course,â€ he said.
â€œYou wereâ€¦rightâ€¦about what you said. About the submission. Even about the little stuff, I think.â€
Hunterâ€™s eyes lit up. So their story wasnâ€™t over! He hadnâ€™t blown it all.
â€œI just couldnâ€™t believe that you would actually want to be with me. So, I lashed out at you. I was trying to protect myself before you hurt me.â€
The sad look in her eyes was all Hunter could take. When she spoke of him hurting her, he couldnâ€™t stand it. He moved in and swept Ava into his powerful arms. The young lady did not resist. She melted into Hunter as the two embraced.
â€œOh sweet girl,â€ he said as they swayed back and forth for a moment, â€œIâ€™ll never hurt you. Iâ€™ll protect you. Iâ€™ll fight for you. Iâ€™ll spoil you. But Iâ€™ll never hurt you.â€
Ava began sobbing as she buried her head into Hunterâ€™s hard chest. She couldnâ€™t believe it was actually happening. She couldnâ€™t believe Hunter truly cared about her.

College is not going well for Ava. She chose the university because the supposed love of her life had gone there after high school. She wanted to stay together.
