On volume five of Hyperion's impressive Romantic Cello Concerto series, Natalie Clein performs works for cello and orchestra by Camille Saint-Saens. The first concerto has always been one of Saint-Saens's most popular pieces. It is a gloriously playful piece that carries the listener along on a melodic and emotional roller coaster. The second concerto is less familiar to most listeners. Extremely difficult for the soloist, Clein surmounts its challenges with the marvelous technique, musicianship and the passion for which she has become so well known.
