The Stolen Home Secretary: An Inspector Anthony Slade Mystery
An Inspector Anthony Slade Mystery
When the Sir William Farroll, the Home Secretary, is reported missing and feared dead, Detective Inspector Anthony Slade of Scotland Yard’s C.I.D. (X2) is called in to handle the case. Slade, though, has a problem. He has blood, but no body. He has a pistol which had been recovered after having been discarded after the crime, but which had not been fired. He even has two suspects who were seen carrying what might have been a body away from Sir William’s home, but no one saw them well enough to identify them. Threats had been made against the Home Secretary, both as a result of labour unrest, and due to the pending death sentence of a notorious gangster, but Slade suspects that the real motive for the crime is something from Sir William’s past, if only he can determine what that is. Can Slade, facing these obstacles and under pressure from his superiors, find . . . The Stolen Home Secretary
