The Twenty-Four Prayers of St. Nerses the Graceful
Saint Nerses the Graceful (Nerses Shnorhali, Nerses IV Klaetsi, 1102-1173) Catholicos of All Armenians, Supreme Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church 1166-1173. Saint of the Armenian Apostolic and Roman Catholic churches. Worked tirelessly to bring reconciliation and reunification with the Eastern Orthodox Church. Most celebrated as an outstanding poet, theologian and hymn writer. Some of the important works include Lamentation on Edessa, Jesus the Son, Word of Faith, Univesal Letter; the Hymnal of the Armenian Church contains close to 200 of his hymns. The Twenty-Four Prayers, also known as With faith I confess, are probably the most popular and beloved of his compositions and have been translated into more than 36 languages. The present translation is intended to stay true both to the structure as well as the theological language of the original in Classical Armenian.
