The Wayfaring Stranger - The Golden Years Of Burl Ives [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] 4CD SET by Burl Ives (2005-05-17)
At last! a comprehensive collection from Burl Icle Ivanhow Ives 'The Wayfaring Stranger'. Burl's abiding love, was folk music. A simple, bearded troubadour performing unsophisticated songs without tricks or embellishments, he single-handedly filled concert halls on both sides of the Atlantic. He toured Britain in 1949 and 1952, and played the Festival Hall in London on his 44th birthday in 1953 in a Coronation Concert, excerpts from which make a fitting finale to this collection. Burl recorded for Asch and Columbia Records but all the titles included here are from his days at Decca, with much of the second disc being taken up with extracts from Bing Crosby's 'Philco' and 'Chesterfield' radio shows. Burl himself was regularly on the air with his own 'Philco' show at the same time as Crosby. This unique 4CD set includes many favorites such as "Blue Tail Fly", "Clementine", "Big Rock Candy Mountain", "Frankie And Johnny", "Lavender Blue (Dilly Dilly)" and many more. Although the majority of recordings on this set are of commercial recording origin, disc 2 is mainly taken from rare radio shows, including collaborations with Bing Crosby, Les Pail & The Andrews Sisters. Extensive liner notes combined with the usual excellent Jasmine sound.... This is a must for any true fan of Burl Ives.
