This work is a short story, print length approximately 18 pages. A bitter old man walks the streets of Jerusalem. Long ago his life was ruined, riddled like so many others in the crossfire of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Once a secret warrior, the old man stumbles across the thing he has long hoped for--coded orders for one final mission. Without hesitation, he engages the machine of destruction--a last chance to avenge his private burden. Only in the end does he recognize the folly of his pursuit. The Messenger is a story that reflects on the futility of the conflict in the Middle East. David Slaton, the Mossad operative featured in The Perfect Assassin, makes a brief appearance.
