Theory and Politics of Terrorism is a comprehensive examination of the different aspects of terrorism. The book examines the phenomenon of terrorism by looking at the concepts and causes behind it, as well as the roles of religion, public relations, and politics.

It increases understanding of the roots of terrorism, and explores how various forms of intervention are used to confront terrorism. In addition the book discusses the ability of terrorist groups to advance political agendas, fundraise, and use media to promote their visions and ideologies.

Other topics include terrorism and crime, cyber-terrorism and information warfare, international terrorism, environmental terrorism, state-sponsored terrorism, and counter-terrorism.

Theory and Politics of Terrorism gives students a greater understanding of different aspects of terrorism as both a philosophy, and as a chosen course of action outside the boundaries of recognized and accepted socio-political discourse.

James Feldkamp, Commander USN Ret., holds a M.A. in international affairs from the Catholic University of America and is a graduate of the Naval War College. Currently, he teaches domestic and international terrorism at George Mason University, and speaks on terrorism and maritime security at US and international conferences. Prior to academia, Feldkamp flew combat missions as a Naval Flight Officer during Desert Storm. He then joined the FBI as a Special Agent and was a founding member of the Tidewater Joint Terrorism Task Force in Norfolk, Virginia. He resigned from the FBI to run for Congress in Oregonâ€™s 4th Congressional District, becoming the Republican nominee in both the 2004 and 2006 elections. Returning to active duty, Feldkamp last served as the international outreach officer for the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office and The Office of Global Maritime Situational Awareness in Washington, DC.
