Thinkin' About No-Limit: A 10,000-Foot-View of No-Limit Texas Hold 'em Poker Cash Games
This book presents a 10,000-foot-view of No-Limit Texas Hold ‘em Poker cash games. It covers the principle concepts of the game. Using conversational prose and examples, the author gently guides the reader into thinking about various strategic and other considerations required to play the game well.
While some math, specific hands, and other details are discussed, this book is an easy read and mostly keeps to the high-level view. The style is fresh and quite different from most of the poker books on the market. Furthermore, it is focussed only on no-limit cash, which is considered to be perhaps the most difficult form of the game.
While aimed at beginner and intermediate level players, even long-time veterans should be able to get some new perspective and insight from the falcon’s eye view.
The author’s basic premise is that (at least in comparison to limit poker) it is nearly impossible to discuss absolutes in no-limit hold ‘em, therefore it is better to look at the big picture and learn to evaluate each situation at the table based on the application of general concepts. No-limit is simply not a mechanical game, and rote play based on memorization will not take you far. Thinkin’ is required. Thinkin’ About No-Limit presents a framework to think about any game situation that may arise at the table.
