Tunnels In The Briar Patch (The Adventures of Roland McCray Book 1)
This book has been described as a cross between Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye†and Ray Bradbury’s classic “Dandelion Wineâ€!
These ten stories follow the life of a boy named Roland McCray growing up during the massive social changes of the 1960’s in a southern town that’s immersed in Civil War history. Roland learns that people aren’t always honest and that prejudice between races and religions doesn’t seem to be any different than it was a century before. Doubts grow in his developing conscience about what to believe and he’s influenced by his grandfather’s example: faith isn’t a thing to be shown, the way it is at his church, but is a quiet, unwavering certainty that all things work out for the good of those who truly seek the good in life. Roland wants that same certainty his grandfather lives and begins to seek his own Path, his own way to finding the good in life and living the way God intends. Elements of self-discovery and a deep sense of spirituality are woven throughout this nostalgic coming of age tale. If you want to buy a book that will both inspire you and bring fond memories of youth, then this is the book for you! *Note from the author: although the stories in this book center around the same character, they were written as standalone stories over a period of several years and not originally intended to be published in a single collection. Because of that, several of the stories have some of the same background information repeated. I decided to publish them together on the advice of many readers and fellow writers. Each story does relate to the entire collection and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I hope that you will overlook the occasional repetition and enjoy the essence of each story and the collection on its own merits. I do plan to fully revise each story and give the collection the feel of a novel, hopefully no later than the summer of 2017, at which time the updated version will be free to download. If you choose to leave a review (and reviews are the lifeblood of any author and help enable me to continue writing), it will be deeply appreciated. My sincere thanks for your patience, understanding, and, of course, for purchasing my books! Sincerely, Blaine Coleman
