Humeniuk reached out to his ethnic enclave by providing an emotional, musical connection to the old-world. Many other fine musicians were inspired to record during the 1920s & 1930s.
Here are the lives these first-generation Americans had left behind - and the world they found in North America. The usual mixture is here - love, laughter, loss - all presented with a skill and panache that was, until recently, overlooked.
Well-known collector Chris King's archive has provided most of the material, and he himself has undertaken the transfers and the sleeve notes.
