The build-up of mineral scale is a threat to the performance and durability of coffee and espresso machines. Mineral scale build-up can impact your machine's boiler, preventing water from reaching its optimal brewing temperature. At insufficient temperatures, it is impossible to extract the full flavor from your coffee beans. Mineral scale build-up can also clog water flow, and if not removed, can cause a machine to stop working. Descaling removes the mineral scale build-up that forms on the heating element of all coffee equipment. Dezcal Descaling Powder is odor free and rinses away thoroughly, unlike vinegar which can be difficult to rinse, takes longer to be effective and leaves behind an unpleasant odor and aftertaste that affects the aroma and taste of your coffee. Descale your coffee or espresso machine every 3 months; more frequently if you live in an area with hard water. Vinegar is a relatively weak acid that will not clean away many coffee oils or descale efficiently. It is difficult to rinse, takes longer to be effective and leaves behind an unpleasant odor and aftertaste that can affect future brews. Coffee is by nature a very oily substance. Over time, coffee oils accumulate inside of your machine to form a rancid residue. This residue is responsible for the acrid smell you may recognize coming from a poorly maintained machine. Unfortunately, this residue causes more than just bad odor. If allowed to develop, residue inside of your machine will eventually clog the machine and cause it to malfunction. Well before your machine clogs or you even notice the signs of neglect, the stale residue lining the inside of your machine will begin to affect the taste of your coffee. Urnex was founded in 1936 to help the coffee roasters and brewers in New York City deliver delicious coffee to demanding customers. Almost immediately, the enemy of true coffee flavor became clear: oily buildup on equipment makes fresh coffee taste bitter.
