A heritage of slavery times, the candombe is first and foremost the music of the African-Uruguayan community. As tambores music, candombe is in its essence a collective event. This complex polyrhythm requires great concentration of the musicians to be totally focused in order to achieve rhythmic precision and to maintain the unity of the cuerda (the drum ensemble).
