Vocally, Brook Benton had everything. He possessed a rich, soulful, earthy sound that somehow made him able to take on any kind of song - whether R&B, pop, jazz or country - and mould it into something uniquely his own. An able songwriter, he fashioned hits for Nat King Cole and Clyde McPhatter, while also, at one point, becoming established as a hit-making duet with Dinah Washington - Queen Of The Blues. A superb performer, with a voice of rare quality, he continues to be remembered on easylistening radio stations and by the many who appreciate talent that comes tinged with timelessness.
