When the Lights Come on Again: A heart-rending and emotional saga of Glasgow in the Second World War (Glasgow and Clydebank Sagas)
Love, loss and friendship in Glasgow & Clydebank during the Second World War and the devastation of the Clydebank Blitz.
Liz MacMillan has always wanted to be a nurse, but her domineering father won't hear of it. World War 2, however, makes nursing a patriotic duty. Liz finds herself working harder than she ever has before but also enjoying a freedom she's never known before.
She becomes one of a close-knit group of trainee nurses and medical students at Glasgow's Western Infirmary. There's Adam Buchanan, who proves himself to be a good friend to Liz, and then there's Glasgow-Italian Mario Rossi, with his continental charm and his dazzling smile. When Mario is interned as an enemy alien, it's Adam that Liz turns to for support.
With Adam, she experiences the terror of the Clydebank Blitz and the other tragedies of war. Then Adam takes himself off to war and Mario comes home. Will he and Liz pick up where they left off or is there a different decision to be made?
