Wherever You Are
While some have tried to tag the "country" label on the Martins, their roots are much more Southern gospel. Then again, we wouldn't have one without the other, if you really get down to it. Wherever You Are, which won this spirited trio a Dove award in 1996, embodies the sweet and easy sound that graces much contemporary church music. Yet, while the Gaither influence abounds, there are some hayseeds sticking here, such as "Only God Knows" and "Well Water." The group melds both styles masterfully on the aptly titled "Grace," allowing the group some wonderful harmonies. While there's nothing overwhelming on Wherever You Are, the consistency is worth noting, as is the concluding "The Road Less Traveled," a Joyce Martin McCollough-penned poignant spiritual. --Michael Lyttle
