Why Lying Works: How and why you accept your own lies and the lies of others
Everybody Lies!
Lies are really ways of hiding. There’s something that we think, feel or know, for us this is what we call the truth. We don’t want certain people to know or even suspect the truth, so we hide it. Hiding anything for ANY reason is lying, even if we’re only listening in silence acting like we don’t know - we are lying. The extreme example of lying is coming up with a believable story that’s convincing to people we tell it to; it’s a misdirection that leads people away from what we don’t want.
In our own way, we lie every day about a lot of things for a lot of reasons, and we’re lied to every day by a lot of people for the same reasons. We lie and are lied to throughout our whole lives: childhood, school, work, dating, marriage, parenthood, divorce, senior years, and ultimately, death. All of our lives are influenced by lies, both our own and others. Lies are the cause of our greatest bliss, disappointments, discoveries, enlightenment, and heartache.
Why is it we sometimes lie?
In this insightful book, peppered by relevant quotes from famous writers and public figures, you’ll learn why people lie and take the first step towards leading a more honest, happier and spiritually mature life.
