THE MEMORY TRICK METHOD:
The first step in using this method is to find a key word for the word you are trying to learn.
For example, let’s say you’re trying to learn the word ASSUAGE. A good key word for the word ASSUAGE is MASSAGE because it follows two rules.
1.The word either sounds acoustically similar or looks similar to the target word. 2.The word is common or familiar to the learner, which makes it easier to draw or visualize.
ASSUAGE (v): uh SWAYJ Sooth, make less severe;
Memory Trick: ASSUAGE-MASSAGE
The MASSAGE ASSUAGED and relieved my pain.
Sample Sentence: “Refreshing winds assuage the summer's heat."
The second step is to connect the key word to the target definition. More simply, we need to link the word massage to “make less severe or sooth.â€
