From the Introduction: The idea for the Church Supper Cookbook sprang from a conversation among the editors of Yankee magazine. Someone brought up the fact that often the best food in any community was to be found at a local church supper, to which the best cooks in the area are asked to bring "your lasagna," or "that marvelous lemon pie," or whatever their specialty. Another remarked that rarely could one go home and duplicate such a local favorite from a recipe out of a standard cookbook - perhaps, he surmised, because of special touches, or even complete recipes evolved over the years by these culinary experts. The only way to get such a recipe is to ask the cook - "someone should put them in a book..." Yankee has done just that.
