It's safe to say that the next generation of sci-fi fans isn't going to be over the moon about this soundtrack--its three fists-in-the-air anthems are unmistakably girlie, and artist names like Cassiopeia aside, the songs have more to do with teen self-discovery than outer space--but it's not without a minipod of stellar moments. Kristian Rex's trippy "Supernova Girl (Z3 Remix)" could send 20-somethings twirling into the stratosphere alongside targeted tweens, and the Super Novas' instrumental "Outa Space" succeeds mightily in its mission to get listeners reeling in the intergalactic feeling. Even Selena the Moon Goddess's supercharged cover of Madonna's "Lucky Star" is not entirely unpraiseworthy. Still, there's the sense that this disc barely survived being scrubbed: unless one of these one-off artists hit it big, kids will be left looking for a superstar. What they'll find instead are fictional pop-posturers like Cosmic Blush, who belts her way through a song called "Out of this World." Which isn't. --Tammy La Gorce
