The USA is taken by surprise when the LSA and their allies launch attacks on the USA to force the USA to turn the electrical power back on in the LSA and the Russian Federation. President Rand with his close friends and advisors former Presidents Cruise and Brownstone try to figure out how to launch a counter attack without harming the people in the LSA whom they consider family. The President still hold out hope they will be able to unify the country.
Book 5 tells the story of four invasions against the USA by the LSA's allies, the USA's counter strikes and how the people on each side of the divide react. The Smith and Jones families unite for another broadcast, this time with a different theme. The LSA runs a program of assassination, trying to take out the leadership of the USA. President Rand sends a hit team to LA to take out the leadership of the LSA. All of the key characters from the first four books return as the civil war turns hot pushing the world onto the edge of a third world war.
