Martyn Brabbins and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra continue their Havergal Brian series for Dutton with this release featuring one of Brian's most delightful scores, the Symphony No.5 of 1937, subtitled Wine of Summer. Joined by baritone soloist Roderick Williams, Brabbins carefully illuminates the work's lovely orchestral details. The disc also includes two of Brian's powerful later symphonies, the Symphony No.19 (1961) and Symphony No. 27 (1966-67). These works make a striking, even heroic contrast to the fifth symphony, while Festal Dance of 1908 completes the program on an ebullient and tuneful note.
