Chad Tanner is a real ‘Momma’s Boy’—at least that’s what his father thinks, despite the fact that Chad is a six feet, two inch, muscular, handsome football player who was a football star in high school. He now lives in Atlanta and is a junior in college, living an exciting, independent life. Somehow, his father just never understood the special relationship between Chad and his beautiful, still young, mother. And it’s a good thing that the senior Tanner can’t read the minds of either his wife or his son because the thoughts they have about each other are anything but typical mother and son.
As the eldest child, Chad has a natural first claim on his mother’s affections and, now that they are both adults, they realize they enjoy each other’s company more than most of the other people they know. Since Chad has been in college, his mother has driven down from North Georgia to bring Chad home for Christmas, the day before Christmas Eve. They go shopping together, have dinner, then drive back to their home in North Georgia to spend a few Christmas holiday days as a family. This year is no different—shopping at Lenox Square, a fine meal in a favorite restaurant—until they go outside to her car and discover that they are in the initial stages of a snow storm. According to the local weather man, the snow may reach twenty inches by morning. They realize they’ll be lucky to make it Chad’s nearby apartment on the icy roads, and there is no way they will make the three-hour drive to join the family in North Georgia.
The storm gets worse during the evening so they make a few emergency preparations and plan to wait it out until the roads are cleared. Chad is ecstatic—he’ll have is mother all to himself for at least a full day and night before they have to start home for Christmas. She is also delighted with the unexpected chance to enjoy her beloved son without having to consider the feeling of her husband and the other two children.
In the cozy warmth and isolation, they spend this precious time enjoying each other on Christmas Eve.
