Fast Forward, with a Twist (The Chronicles of Natasha Mackay Book 1)
Man had reached the stars. Many planets had human colonies upon them, and most were thriving. Earth was a distant memory for some, and yet for others the old planet remained the centre of the Commonwealth. Peace had settled on earth for a long time. With the exception of the small Commonwealth Defence Force, Man had forgotten how to fight. Into this time of relative tranquillity they came from somewhere else. No man had ever seen them, and, due to their advanced technology, no man was ever likely to see them. Some years before they'd stripped the human colony of Gallup and destroyed the planet on leaving, leaving few survivors drifting in space. They disappeared into the darkness before anyone could react. All the Commonwealth could do was pick up the survivors. One of these survivors was a traumatised young woman called Natasha Mackay. Her family, friends, home and world had been destroyed, while she retreated into the darkest recesses of her own mind, focussed solely on revenge and death. Gallup was a long way from earth, and then, as now, the politicians preferred to ignore the events, hoping that they would not repeat. But, they came back. This time to another far-flung colony on Karunda, the aliens landed and prepared to repeat what happened on Gallup. The locals, with a small Commonwealth force put up one heck of a struggle to prevent them. They were losing. Many years earlier, on Planet Earth, soldier Peter Bryant meets what he believes is his untimely and ignominious death while driving his car badly. Whilst in pain and not really functioning properly, his world explodes. He wakens in hospital. Only all around him believe that he's someone called Natasha Mackay and that she has just won the first battle against their unknown foe. He discovers that he is inside a female body and that somehow he is now many centuries in the future. Like him, Natasha is a soldier, but it is a very different war she is fighting. Not only does she face the unknown alien enemy, but also the demons in her own mind – a mind that is shared by the ghost of Peter Bryant and memories of horrors that she has conveniently forgotten. Just who is she? The new Natasha has to claw her way to sanity, while acutely aware that she must never permit anyone to get a glimpse of the impossible truth.
