She's running from herself. He's running from love.
Hannah Price is a runner. Marathons, ultra marathons, 40 mile trail runs in and around San Diego for the sheer love of it. She would never consider herself to be running away from anything, but when she meets smolderingly sexy Navy SEAL reservist John Knox while on an ill-advised solo wilderness run, her first thought after the initial panic of running into a guy when she's out alone on a trail is that he's the perfect running buddy.
Before long, Knox is a running buddy with benefits and Hannah's busily explaining to herself and her friends and anyone who will listen that he's just a friend. It's safer that way.
For Knox, keeping attachments simple and casual is second nature. He's a partner in the new civilian venture SEArch & Rescue, made up of teammates from SEAL Team 11, now reservists after a mission blew up in their faces and claimed too many lives. He doesn't need the complications of a girlfriend and doesn't think a relationship would be fair to the girl. Hannah's just a friend – with benefits.
But when Hannah goes missing during a solo trail run in San Diego Canyonlands, Knox has to admit to himself she might mean quite a bit more than a buddy and Hannah has to admit to herself that maybe she has been running away for quite some time.
Maybe she's ready to stop running. But first she has to find her way out of the trouble she's run straight into, with or without help. Because if she can't, her running days are over.
This is book 2 of the Navy SEALs Romance series, but can be read as a standalone. For 18+ mature audiences.
