The Birds of Eastern Ecuador, Volume 1: The Foothills and Lower Subtropics
The Birds of Eastern Ecuador, Volume 1: The Foothills and Lower Subtropics is a 5 CD publication presenting 814 separately announced recordings of 217 species. It includes the voices of nearly all the birds predominantly inhabiting the foothills and lower subtropics of eastern Ecuador and the Rio Maranon drainage in southernmost Ecuador. The foothills and lower subtropics are wonderfully rich in birds - tropical, montane and endemic. Many are poorly known, especially those confined to wet, low-lying ridges east of the Andes. In addition, the Rio Maranon drainage combines birds from both humid eastern and arid southwestern Ecuador with its many endemic forms. Our goal is to achieve a high degree of completeness, not only including song repertoires but also a wide variety of calls for each species. The habitats covered range from dry forest and savanna in the Rio Maranon drainage to humid and wet forest and clearings along the eastern base of the Andes and its outlying rides. This CD set is part of a series that will eventually cover all major life zones in Ecuador, a country with one of the richest avifaunas in the world.
