This stainless steel water dripper (or brouilleur) is an exact reproduction of an original 19th century French Verse-Eau, and is used as a single server to add water and sugar, as prepared in a traditional French or Swiss absinthe.
A dose of absinthe is first poured into a glass and the dripper is sat a top its rim. A sugar cube (or cubes) it placed on top of the perforated round tray below the reservoir. Cold water is then slowly added to the reservoir with a carafe. The water will begin to flow, or drip, through a small hole in the bottom of the dripper, landing on the sugar sitting below. The rate in which the water will flow through the dripper is solely dependent upon the person preparing the absinthe, as dripper holes sometimes vary slightly. In general - the slower, the better. This sugary-water mixture then falls into the glass of absinthe, releasing oils within the absinthe and perfuming the air.
The wire legs can be carefully bent to accommodate a variety size of glasses.
