Yasik is a soft blend of Tibetan Yak down and silk, in a natural undyed color. Yak down has a structure similar to cashmere resulting is a soft, fuzzy yarn that's lovely to work with. Each yak produces about 100 grams of fine downy fiber per year. The average fineness of down from an adult yak is 18-20 microns, with the average length of fiber being 30-40mm. Yaks that live in higher altitudes produce finer fiber. There are only 14 million yaks in the world, of which 13 million are found in Western China. The people of Tibet are totally dependant on their yak herds for the fiber, milk, meat, bones and even their dung, which they use for fuel.
